sheffield wednesday have dropped into the relegation zone after losing out to a last-gasp winner from bristol city. the owls were all over the robins for long periods in the second half but woeful accuracy cost them chances. luke varney and marcus tudgay were the biggest culprits, each missing glorious chances to take the lead.

nicky maynard provided the sucker-punch with just under ten minutes remaining. maynard’s weaving run resulted in a decisive finish to silence the hillsborough crowd.

the loss leaves wednesday in the third relegation place. their run-in to the end is not an easy one either. while the other teams in the relegation battle play each other and those teams in the lower half of the league, sheffield has to play two teams within the playoff race ands the upper half of the table.

sheffield wednesday climbed their sorry arses out of the relegation zone, while putting a small dent in swansea‘s playoff hopes after a goalless draw at liberty stadium overnight.

despite the lack of scoring, it was an open game with some chances for both teams. leon clarke and jermaine johnson both spurned good chances for the owls. while, (let’s face it, i don’t care who they are), swansea strikers missed some quality opportunities of their own.

while the draw takes the owls out of the drop zone, the bottom teams have a game in hand. also, the gap between the drop teams and the mid-table sides is growing, meaning that wednesday will have to keep winning from now on to stay ahead of those behind, let alone catch up to the rest. yeah, good luck with that.

i’ve been doing some reading lately and am just beside myself with disbelief as the rudd government attempts to tighten its grip on the freedoms of its citizens. it has been released that the australian classification board (acb) has banned any pornography depicting women with small breasts as it is claimed that it promotes pedophilia. bloody hell, what next? oh wait, showing female ejaculation, that’s what’s next. films showing female ejaculation have been banned for two reasons (from ‘the register’, i will link to it later):

1) That the depictions are a form of urination which is banned under the label of ‘golden showers’ in the Classification Guidelines or

2) Female ejaculation is an ‘abhorrent’ depiction

how is that any different to the male version of the same  function?

i’m honestly shocked and amazed. does kevein rudd really think this is going to matter? it’s like trying to strangle water. it’s never going to work, just like his internet censorship plan. and while the acb claim that it is done on a case by case basis, it doesn’t take away from the fact that the intent is there.

speaking of censorship, the gaming community is still fighting for the acb to create an adults-only rating for games deemed too explicit for general public consumption. the confusing part of this comes as the average age for gamers in australia is over 30 years of age.

while i do agree that some games that depict sexual violence or mentions drugs explicitly should be banned by the acb. but surely adult gamers should at least be given the choice of whether they want to buy these sorts of games. most companies now refuse to edit their games for the australian market, while some that are given an r-rating in other countries actually ‘shoe-horned’ into the MA 15+ rating in australia.

sheffield wednesday‘s pathetic run continues as they fell 2-0 to fellow cellar dwellers, reading. second half goals from grzegorz rasiak and kalifa cisse condemned the owls to yet another defeat. lee grant was once again hung out to dry as the defence (word used only in name) disappeared. the closest wednesday came to scoring was a luke varney shot that brushed the woodwork.

i’m not going to waste my time writing about a team that does not want to be out on the pitch. this was the fourth home defeat in a row. the first time this has happened in nine years. the loss leaves sheffield wednesday in 20th place, two spots from the relegation zone. if they don’t pick their game up, they will find themselves there in short time.
