Jean-Paul Sartre “Vertigo is anguish to the extent that I am afraid not of falling over the precipice, but of throwing myself over.” [Being and Nothingness]

btw i googled the info and got it from the official chinese olympic committee website, of all places.
i’ve been doing some reading lately and am just beside myself with disbelief as the rudd government attempts to tighten its grip on the freedoms of its citizens. it has been released that the australian classification board (acb) has banned any pornography depicting women with small breasts as it is claimed that it promotes pedophilia. bloody hell, what next? oh wait, showing female ejaculation, that’s what’s next. films showing female ejaculation have been banned for two reasons (from ‘the register’, i will link to it later):
1) That the depictions are a form of urination which is banned under the label of ‘golden showers’ in the Classification Guidelines or
2) Female ejaculation is an ‘abhorrent’ depiction
how is that any different to the male version of the same function?
two excellent articles can be found at the british site, the register, and at the very aussie, crikey.com.au
i’m honestly shocked and amazed. does kevein rudd really think this is going to matter? it’s like trying to strangle water. it’s never going to work, just like his internet censorship plan. and while the acb claim that it is done on a case by case basis, it doesn’t take away from the fact that the intent is there.
speaking of censorship, the gaming community is still fighting for the acb to create an adults-only rating for games deemed too explicit for general public consumption. the confusing part of this comes as the average age for gamers in australia is over 30 years of age.
while i do agree that some games that depict sexual violence or mentions drugs explicitly should be banned by the acb. but surely adult gamers should at least be given the choice of whether they want to buy these sorts of games. most companies now refuse to edit their games for the australian market, while some that are given an r-rating in other countries actually ’shoe-horned’ into the MA 15+ rating in australia.
a great article can be found at the global post.

sheffield wednesday’s pathetic run continues as they fell 2-0 to fellow cellar dwellers, reading. second half goals from grzegorz rasiak and kalifa cisse condemned the owls to yet another defeat. lee grant was once again hung out to dry as the defence (word used only in name) disappeared. the closest wednesday came to scoring was a luke varney shot that brushed the woodwork.
i’m not going to waste my time writing about a team that does not want to be out on the pitch. this was the fourth home defeat in a row. the first time this has happened in nine years. the loss leaves sheffield wednesday in 20th place, two spots from the relegation zone. if they don’t pick their game up, they will find themselves there in short time.

sheffield wednesday played one their better games of the year to fight back and grab a point against bristol city at ashton gate overnight. both teams exchanged chances in the first half but neither could fashion a goal. goalkeeper, lee grant, made some superb saves from several well-carved chances.
the second half livened up when city took the lead after an hour. a poor clearance from the owls’ defense was snet back into the box, where striker, nicky maynard, gave the robins the edge. with 15 minutes to go, marcus tudgay put luke varney through, where he unleashed an unstoppable shot from 25 yards out.
the draw leaves wednesday in 14th.
been away for far too long… will update soon
dave seems to be taking an extra-long sabbatical on his liverpool updates, so i guess i should give a quick rundown. liverpool played hull city overnight and the premier league sophomores got thumped 6 – 1. fernando torres scored himself a hat-trick and ryan babel got a brace and steven gerrard scored one himself.
aside: torres has a superb record when playing at anfield. 33 goals from 34 games. he’s also scored four hat-tricks already, three of those in the premier league. he also has seven goals from eight games this year. that’s just madness.
liverpool have been having some defensive woes this year, allowing soft goals on basic errors. this would explain why they are only third in the league, behind perennial front-runners, manchester united and chelsea.
