an added owls note
an-added-owls-note

a note i meant to mention earlier was that the photos of the game were grabbed from the official sheffield wednesday website. so, a belated thanks and kudos to the folks there. i’ll be trying to feature more photos as often as i can, hopefully not just form the championship division games, but from cup games as well.

sheffield-wednesday-3-plymouth-argyle-1

jermaine johnson on the run

sheffield wednesday countinued their fine form with a sound 3-1 victory over former manager, paul sturrock, and his plymouth argyle side overnight. it was wednesday’s first away win of the season, coming on the back of their excellent win last week. marcus tudgay scored a second half brace and richard wood scored the opening goal for the owls.

tudgay set up wood’s goal after heading the ball down to him to finish in the 33rd minute. plymouth came close a few times leading up to the break, and just after it. looking a little more agressive in front of their fans, plymouth captain, carl fletcher, smacked the left post of the owl’s goal.

with plymouth having trouble with wednesday’s pace up front, it came as no real surprise that a penalty was awarded after striker, luke varney, was brought down in the box. tudgay stpped up, dispatching it, despite a touch from the keeper. a wonderfully taken free-kick made it 2-1, but tudgay wrapped up procedings with his third goal of the year to make it 3-1.

richard gets the wood on his opponent. hahaha.. hmmm

the win takes wednesday up to 8th. there are some real heavyweights in the championship this year. newcastle and middlesborough, long time premiership teams, find themselves in league football for the first time in decades. they still have a core of their top-tier side and sit at the top of the table. west bromich albion and derby, not to mention local rivals, united, are also in the mix. wednesday should be looking for a playoff position and luck their way through.

stuck in a rut
stuck-in-a-rut

there’s only so much shit i can take before i’m worn down and ready to fall in a screaming ball of mess on the floor. the stupid thing is, i can’t use this medium as a way of release because it would be deemed ‘unprofessional’. i would easily fill up the days recalling all the stupid crap i see everyday. i gets tiring pretty quickly. it’s not even a politics thing. the admin at school do their best but there is only so much they can do from their end.  for the last few weeks, i have felt my fuse slowly being shortened. this morning i was only barely able to suppress a rage tht i felt towards just about everyone i saw. there’s no point taking a day off, or a ‘mental health’ day. i know what i’m coming back to. i know the shit they get up to when i’m not there. do i have the holidays to look forward to? not really, i know i have to go back sooner or later. is this something every teacher goes through? probably. am i going to stick it out? probably. will i be back next year…. there’s a good question…

sheffield-wednesday-4-scunthorpe-0

sheffiled wednesday brought up their first win of the season in emphatic style, carving scunthorpe up for a 4 – nil thumping overnight. with two goals in the first 12 minutes, the owls set the platform and never looked troubled against an offensively timid scunthorpe attack.

richard wood headed wednesday in front after six, before jermaine johnson‘s deflected shot doubled the lead. marcus tudgay headed in the game’s thrid goal ten minutes before the break. darren potter rounded off the scoring 10 minutes into the second half with a well-taken half volley.

the win gives wednesday 5 points on the table, in 11th place. the search for photos continues…

sheffield-wednesday-1-peterborough-1

sheffield wednesday were once again unable to hang onto a lead for the second weekend in a row, allowing peterborough to share the spoils overnight. james o’connor headed the owls ahead after a superb marcus tudgay cross just 20 minutes into the game. peterborough’s keeper pulled off some fine saves to keep his side in the game going into half time.

second half action saw peterborough equalise after some deserved attacking football. both teams were not settling for a point and pushed forward at every occasion. the stalemate would not have pleased either manager but it is better than losing the point already gained.

root bridge

while tooling around on trendalicious, i found an interesting piece about a place in india where bridges are grown naturally from trees. cherrapunji is one of the wettest places on earth, is in north-east india. the bridges are shaped by growing secondary roots along a hollowed out trunk of a tree placed across a river. some can be as long as a basketball court. some bridges are thought to be about 500 years old, as they get stronger as they grow older. another good blog features the bridges here.

sheffield-wednesday-2-barnsley-2

while the dojo has been out of action, the english football season has started and the coca-cola championship division kicked off last weekend. sheffield wednesday took on barnsley and played them off the park in the first 45 minutes of their season. jermaine johnson and michael gray both opened their accounts for the owls. wednesday went into half-time with a decent cushion. the second stanza was a complete reversal of fortune as barnsley dominated and scored two goals of their own to share the spoils on opening day.

midweek saw the second round of carling cup action. wednesday hosted rochdale and recorded a comfortable 2 – 0 victory. rochdale, two leagues below the owls, tried to put up a stern defence but could not cope with the superior skill and tactics of the wednesday attack.
