sheffield-wednesday-1-bristol-city-1

a darren potter free kick salvaged a point for sheffield wednesday in their second last game of the season at ashton gate overnight. the robins looked to have secured the win after scoring a goal on the half-hour, then sitting back and defending. however, the 1-all draw does their promotion playoff chances any good and their negative approach could be costly. neither team could carve any chances out, with city dominating the first half, wednesday the second. once again, lee grant ptoved to be wednesday’s best player, keeping out clear-cut chances in the first stanza.

the draw leaves wednesday 12th, pretty much where they have been since january. with one game left, at home, here’s to hoping they finish strongly.

it’s not photoshop as such, but it was taken from a photoshop tutorial. paint.net is a much simpler program to use, though it’s usefulness and options are far shallower than photoshop or creative suite. it’s also a free program which we have at school. the stuff that i have done on it takes less than ten steps. so, i’ll prolly teach the students some at school. here’s the first one:

schmap update
schmap-update

in an update from an earlier story, schmap.com contacted me the other day to let me know that the photo of the opera house submitted to them was used in their sydney guide. they have a map with an icon on it, if you hover over the icon, there’s a slideshow on the right that links to all the shots of that place via flickr. anyway, my photo is one of the hundreds they chose for the sydney opera house. a link to the page with my photo already there can be found here.

my first published shot!

sheffield-wednesday-2-southampton-0

on-loan striker, luke varney, scored half way through both halves to give sheffield wednesday a win over southampton at hillsborough last night. in front of a crowd of nearly 25,000, the owls drove what could prove to be the nail in the saints’ relegation coffin. southampton now need to win both their remaining games to stay up.

francis jeffers set up varney’s first goal on the half hour after slipping through a well-weighted ball. varney kept his composure to slot the ball past southampton keeper, kelvin davis.

some calamitous defending let varney in for his second goal. an innocuous throw in slow-rolled its way between two defenders. varney slipped in, rounded davis and put the ball into the empty net.

with two games to go, wednesday sit 12th on 57 points. if results go their way, they could actually finish in the top ten. once again, it’s been a season of missed opportunities and disappointment. especially the fact that i can’t get any photos of the matches.

sens-less-playoffs-start

the nhl playoffs have started without the ottawa senators for the first time in nine years. to make the playoffs a bit more interesting, nhl.com has hired some “celebrity” bloggers to follow their team and add their thoughts. quite frankly, it’s a bunch of d-list people nobody has heard of. except for one. die-hard new jersey devil fan, kevin smith, is blogging for his team as they look to get past the carolina hurricanes in the first round. it’s interesting at least and i’ll tune it to see how it turns out. the link goes to the blogging main page.

update…
update

the links page is in the middle of a revamp.  the categories have been cleaned up and reorganised a bit.  admittedly, it does look a bit like nerfy.com but that’s a risk i’m willing to take. once it’s finished, it will be a bit more functional as well. if i’m going to look at it everyday it should be worth cleaning up.

sheffield-wednesday-0-derby-county-1

a strike late into first half injury time was enough for derby county to stave off relegation for another day while consigning sheffield wednesday to yet another dreary midtable performance.  derby’s rob hulse headed home a free kick from the left wing, just when it looked like both teams were going into the break scoreless.

wednesday were impotent in attack and only a few francis jeffers shots were all they could muster. the loss leaves wednesday in 12th. all surrounding teams have now played the same amount of games, giving the owls that slight extra chance.

in socceroo news, mile sterjovski came on as a substitute for the rams. he didn’t have much of an impact and could be one of the 18 players being let go at the end of the season by manager nigel clough. i don’t think that leaves many players at pride park…
