sheffield wednesday could not grab all three points from either of their christmas period games against blackpool and coventry. the 1-1 draw with blackpool saw the first goal by bartosz slusarski, in his second loan spell for the owls. the disappointing 2-0 defeat away to coventry means that wednesday’s vision of a playoff position is looking bleak. hey, at least they’re no the ottawa senators…
inyoung and i decided to get out of the cold for a while and went to the movies. inyoung chose to see twilight. needless to say, inyoung won’t be choosing movies again anytime soon.
set in a backwater town, desert pasty, bella, moves in and finds she’s targeted by local fellow pasty, edward. edward (robert pattinson) tries his best to look like a new-age robert smith, full of pouting and morose poses and melancholic eyes, white make-up and nice lipstick. i think he was acting…
the story drags and there seems to be quite a few gaps and questions left unanswered, such as: why couldn’t the robert smith character read pasty chick’s mind? he says he could read other people’s, yet we never find out the mystery behind it all. acting is crucial to movies and i found that it was seriously lacking here. maybe the emo kids might like it but it just didn’t engage me. it was almost like watching the new star wars, wooden hayden christensen just gnawing at my nerves with cold, dead eyes. pattinson does the same. i don’t want to think about it anymore than i have to.

i headed out friday night with dave and two of his late class students, charles and dan. i can’t remember exactly where we were, i’ll have to check that later but there four bridges pretty close together, so we started shooting them. it was pretty cold and it started raining just after midnight, so we packed it up and headed to a bar, gear and all. we had this hot-as-hell sauce that left my mouth on fire for the next three days. otherwise, it was a good night all-round. charles and dan are cool guys. we’re hoping to catch up with them on christmas eve for some night shooting at city hall, all decorated with lights and stuff. bridge pics:

sheffield wednesday had their five game unbeaten run end at the hands of cardiff city, who extended their own unbeaten run to six games. in front of almost 18,000, the 2-0 loss sends wednesday back down to 11th. the owls had ten regular first team players out of the line up, so depleted that they called up three youth players from the academy. cardiff dominated play from the start but could not find the finishing touch to put sheffield away completely. owls suck again…
the last few days have been pretty good as i headed out and saw some stuff on my own. i hit two of the big five palaces in seoul, gyeongbokgung and gyeonghuigung, as well as several museums and art galleries. shooting conditions were not ideal and i couldn’t come up with as many good shots as i would have liked but i’ll post a couple of shots anyway.

in the first week of my trip, i was determined to work out once and for all what was happening with my korean pension. an agreement was signed in october this year that australians working in korea could receive their pension contributions as a lump sum payment once they had finished their time in the country. i enquired as to my eligibility and found that i was able to get some money for my time at my first post in korea, seattle solomon. after much malarky and document filling-out and searching for stupid things like itineraries, it was revealed that i should get about 800,000 won. that equates to about $500 by the time i get it as the australian dollar continues to crash. it’s still a nice little windfall that will go back into covering the cost of this trip.

i found this on a site called roketship.com. done by an expat living in korea, it’s a quirky look at how foreigners live and deal with surviving in the culture. it might not mean much to those who have not experienced it, but this cartoon brought back a lot of memories of working with dave and working out what to do with new students.
i’ve just watched the new trailer to x-men origins: wolverine at marvel.com and just from that, it’s looking pretty good. i’m sure there is an official site or something but i am only going by the marvel trailer. it seems to be showing how wolverine got mixed up with the weapon x program. there also seems to be some cameos by characters such as gambit and cyber, though i’m not sure how gambit fits in, considering his timeline within the comic book series. nemesis, sabretooth, seems to be the major villain but i’m mostly have my fingers crossed for an appearance by the merc-with-a-mouth, deadpool. looks like a decent film…
after a 16 hours of travel, i’m in korea. it’s quite cool, about two degrees when i got off the bus. it’s not very windy though so the weather’s good. been chilling out with dave and have spent most of the time just relaxing. will head out tomorrow and see inyoung.
