bones-of-the-hills-review

i can easily count the number of modern authors i like reading and would actually sit and read more than one of their books, on about three fingers. conn iggulden would be one of those three and this week i sat down and powered through his third book in the conqueror series, bones of the hills. the final installment tells of the mongols’ battle with the arab nations which ultimately led to genghis khan’s demise.

i think the thing i like most about, not just this book, but the series in general, is the way it combines two of my favourite pieces of work: homer’s, the odyssey and the romance of the three kingdoms, attributed to luo guanzhong. the emotional connection felt for the characters (homer) mixed and balanced almost perfectly with the action and strategies (luo). the fact the iggulden also tries to be as historically accurate as possible is also good. i might even have a crack at some of iggulden’s earlier works on julius caesar.

sheffield wednesday recovered from conceding a late first half penalty and survived an exciting second half to overcome norwich city 3-2 at a foggy hillsborough overnight. marcus tudgay went from villain to hero as he was the one responsible for allowing the penalty in the 43rd minute. luckily (for him) he popped up in the 72nd to score from a diving header at the far post. on-loan defender, tony mcmahon and leon clarke scored the first goals for the owls in the 51st and 55th minutes respectively putting the home side up 2-1before the canaries pulled one back. the win pulls wednesday up to 12th on the table. a rise of a couple of places from the last few weeks. considering that norwich is 21st on the ladder, i still consider wednesday to be sucking it pretty hard…

server suckage
server-suckage

dave got booted off his server for using *gasp* the resources offered by the server. so now he’s had to move servers again, ergo, the dojo with it. but when everything was put back on, the newer entries to the dojo were totally screwed up. which means i’ve lost most all of this month’s entires and a few from last month. oh well… nobody reads it except me… and even then it’s not very good anyway.
