first-away-in-this-season

sheffield wednesday scored two late first half goals to secure a 2-1 win over charlton athletic at the valley overnight. coming from a goal down, wade small and marcus tudgay each scored a goal that sent the visitors to the top ten on the table. small made a fine run from half way in wednesday’s first real attack of the game, before cutting in on the left and slicing one past charlton keeper keeper, nicky weaver. three minutes later, tudgay pounced on some sleepy charlton defense and put on in from the edge of the box. the win sends the owls up to nineth, on 12 points; remarkably with a -3 goal difference thanks to the 6-0 hammering they copped last week in their last away match at reading.

a perfect storm
a-perfect-storm

the cronulla sharks‘ excellent seasom came crashing down last night after a convincing 28-0 loss to a redhot melbourne storm. the reigning premiers looked in total control from the start. the sharks came into the game with the number one defence in the league, but melbourne stifled their attack and just swatted on the counter attack. cronulla played with a lot more conviction in the second stanza, but were their own worst enemy with dropped balls and missed tackles. there’s always next year. seems to be the mantra if you’re a sharks fan…

here is the mascot for the 2010 world cup to be held in south africa. it’s a cheetah named, no, not chester, but zakumi. zakumi comes from two parts; the za comes from the offical initials of south africa, a la european car stickers, and kumi means “ten” in a few native languages. so, meet zakumi. what’s up with his frickin hair though?

i have to admit that i don’t know much about flash but i stumbled upon this page describing the levels of buddhism. it has some cool interactive bits. i don’t have any use for that kind of page but it’s nice to have something other than the old menu/link type set up. and so saying, here’s a link

i spent last week travelling with some students down to sydney and canberra, taking in parliament house and other various activities. i’m still pretty tired from it, even though i got back on saturday. i’ve got over 500 photos to go through so i’ll post some as i edit them. good or otherwise… mostly otherwise.

owls claw back
owls-claw-back

after a 6-0 hiding from reading midweek, sheffield wednesday found their resolve and managed a 0-0 draw against ipswich town at hillsborough overnight. manager brian laws made only one change for the clash, bringing in a fully recovered steve watson but making no other moves as a show of faith to the squad. the result was a hardened defense that made more chances, even if they could not convert them. the result leaves the owls midtable but with only two victories so far, the team needs to start finding the back of the net more consistently.
