yesterday was a bloody hot day, 36 degrees, but our school still held its ball games competition in the afternoon. with a composite class, we were in two comps. we managed to win the overall grade 6 comp, but mainly thanks to the girls who won two of their three games. the sevens didn’t fare so well, coming third overall. bloody hot, but a satisfactory outcome. 6/7s, champeens!
while it’s disappointing that i can’t blog as often as i would like, it’s good that i’m at least genuinely busy and can use that as an excuse…
inyoung managed to get her provisional license today. she’d failed at the first attempt but got it the second one, pretty easily. she can now drive gerty (the getz) almost anytime she wants. after i put her name on the insurance papers. well done, inyoung!! ㅋㅋ
inyoung and i headed to the gallery of modern art yesterday for an andy warhol exhibition. i have to admit that i didn’t know that much about him or a lot about his style. but walking around that gallery, with these pieces of cultural history, the images that i suddenly recognised from so many places. the depth and scope of what he’d accomplished really hit me. i really enjoyed the simplicity of the works. the way he made everyday things seem so elegant and unique. i’ll upload some images i found on the net that i liked from the gallery. however, my favourite shot, a photo of warhol by photographer nat finkelstein, seems to be non-existent on the net, which is a shame. it’s a wonderful candid shot of warhol, as he seems to be thinking/comtemplating something else. truly wonderful…
i couldn’t take any photos either cos a)i wasn’t allowed and b)have a bruised/swollen finger on my camera hand, which made it really painful to hold it.
had a meeting with some parents yesterday and got a few compliments for the work i’ve been doing so far. it’s nice to receive feedback like that to know that i’m on the right track. it’s also good to see students going home and telling parents about all the good things that are happening in class. much better than a slap in the face….
got hit by stupid spam in my comments in my previous post. i think i dealt with it via the dashboard, but i’ll have to check with my system admin adviser. stupid spam…
the first week of school has finished and with no major dramas to worry about, my feeling is one of relief. the students all seem academically bright, but being near-pre-teens, they tend to be a bit dramatic about things. i’m sure i’ll get used to it and i’m starting to be glad that i don’t have to deal with 8 year olds anymore. at least i can hold a conversation, of sorts, with my class.
finnish football legend, jari litmanen, has signed with english premiership side, fulham fc, until the end of the current season. at the age of 36, it is thought that jari would be past his prime, yet his vast international and european experience give him qualities needed by the london club, who are struggling at the foot of the table. and so, having finally found a premiership side worthy of my allegience since litmanen left liverpool, the quest is on to get a fulham jersey.
